Our Travel Plans
Seems like so long ago that we started this journey! Filed our application paperwork with Heartsent Adoptions on June 23, 2005. DTC on October 21, 2005 (and eligible for expedited referral, as Nancy was born in China). Received our referral for Xia Dou on February 28. Now it is time to travel to China for "Gotcha Day". We are almost complete! /Cheer!!!
So where are we going, and what will we be doing?
April 6 - Depart San Jose for flight to Shanghai (via Tokyo). Spend two nights in Shanghai, and meet up with the rest of our group of 9 adopting families.
April 9 - We fly into Changsha city, Hunan Province.
April 10 - On Monday we will meet with the director of the YiYang SWI orphanage and we will meet our daughter, Xia Dou (Emily Sarah), in person for the first time. From this point on, Emily is with us!! This is "Gotcha Day", the day all adopting parents wait for... when baby joins family.
April 10-14 - We will spend the week in Changsha to complete China legal adoption paperwork for Emily, obtain her passport and travel visas, in preparation for travel to Guangzhou. If we are fortunate, we will also have opportunity to visit Emilys' orphanage sometime during the week.
April 15 - To complete our adoption process we will fly to Guangzhou in Southern China. Here, Emily, will receive a physical, we will fill out additional paperwork (can't have too much paperwork for this little girl), receive clearance for issue of her IR3 visa to travel to the USA.
April 18 - Final meeting with the US Consulate in Guangzhou where we will receive Emily's visa.
April 19 - Travel to Hefei, in Anhui Province to spend the week with Nancy's favorite aunt & uncle, and cousins.
April 26 - Travel to Shanghai again, stay over night in preparation for departure home on the 27th.
April 27 - Travel home to San Jose (via Tokyo), arriving home 10:35 AM local time in San Jose. Pass Immigration and customs... and Emily is officially a US citizen as soon as she clears immigration in San Jose.. YaY!! A quick drive home to settle in and crash for some real sleep time, then it will be play time for all of us together. :)
